Skate Competiton 6/14/2008!

Our competiton was a success! We registered 19
skaters and approximatly 50 people showed up to
watch. I would like to Thank all of the helpers
for working so hard on this project...THANKS!!!!
At the awards time we gave out 2 new decks, 2 new
sets of trucks and 2 new sets of wheels as
prizes. One of our winning skaters id an
unbelievable trick. he jumped over a car and
landed it perfectly! WOW!

After giving out the awards Bill Tucker gave a
message of hope through a relationship with Jesus
Christ. Our main purpose at the Skate Church is
to share the gospel of Jesus and to equip new
believers with Bible studies each week after we
have some fun skating.

God Bless until next time!

Baptism 101

Why Should We be Baptized?

At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee
and was baptized by John in the Jordan.
(Mark 1:9)

Go and make disciples of all
nations, baptizing
them in the name of the Father and of the Son and
of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey
everything I have commanded you.
(Matthew 28:19-20)

"Whoever acknowledges me
before men, I will also
acknowledge him before my Father in heaven.
(Matthew 10:32)

Answer:

#1.)To follow the example and obey the command of
Jesus.

#2.)To identify openly as a Christian.

What Does Baptism Mean?

Christ died for our sins...he was buried...he was
raised on the third day (1 Corinthians 15:3-4)

We were therefore buried with him through baptism
into death in order that, just as Christ was
raised from the dead...we too may live a new life.
(Romans 6:4)

Answer

#1.)It pictures Christ's death, burial and
resurrection.

#2.)It illustrates our new life as a Christian.

It [baptism] is not the washing off of bodily
dirt, but the promise made to God from a good
conscience. 1 Peter 3:21 Good News Bible)

Baptism doesn't make you a Christian - it shows
that you have already become a Christian through
faith in Jesus. It's like a wedding ring - an
outward symbol of the commitment we have in our
hearts. It is a Symbol of my Christian faith.

Why Do Baptist Baptize by Immersing?

Because the word "baptism" (Baptizo in Greek
N.T.) means to "plunge, dip, or submerge," we
believe this is the way Jesus was baptized and
commanded baptism to be done. Baptism in this
way "acts out" in a powerful way the spiritual
meaning of Jesus' death, burial and
resurrection. Other forms of baptism in use
today developed in the centuries after the New
Testament was written due to changes in the
theology of baptism and for matters of
convenience.

Martin Luther... "I would have those who are to
be baptized to be entirely immersed, as the word
imports and the mystery signifies."

John Calvin... "The word 'baptize' signifies to
immerse. It is certain that immersion was the
practice of the ancient church."

John Wesley... "'Buried with him,' alluding to
baptizing by immersion according to the custom of
the first church."

Who Should Be Baptized?

Those who accepted his message were baptized...
(Acts 2:41)

But when they believed Philip as he preached the
good news...they were baptized, both men and
women. (Acts 8:12)

Answer

#1.)Every person who Accepts and Believes in
Jesus.

#2.)We believe it's scripturally proper to be
baptized after coming to our own personal faith
in Jesus. For this reason, we don't baptize
infants or those unable to understand the
significance of Christian faith. It appears,
from the Bible's teaching, that baptism lacks the
meaning Christ intended for it if we're not
making a confession of our own faith when we're
baptized.

Is it OK to be baptized again if I
wasn't baptized in this way?

Certainly! There's an occasion mentioned in the
Bible where this occurred - see Acts 19:1-5.
Your baptism will likely be very meaningful for
you now that you understand its deep
significance. There is clearly no spiritual harm
in doing it again in genuine faith.

Paul asked, "What baptism did you
receive?" "John's baptism," they replied. Paul
said, "John's baptism was a baptism of
repentance. He told the people to believe in the
one coming after him, that is, in Jesus." On
hearing this, they were baptized into the name of
the Lord Jesus (Acts 19:3-5)

Do I need to be baptized to be a member in a
Baptist church?

Membership at a Baptist Church requires
baptism as we've described it, because it is the
required "mark" of being a disciple that Jesus
commanded:

Go and make disciples of all
nations, baptizing
them in the name of the Father and of the Son and
of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey
everything I have commanded you." (Matthew
28:19-
20)

Those who accepted his message were baptized, and
about three thousand were added to their number
that day. (Acts 2:41)

It only makes sense that members of Christ's
church be persons who have obeyed his command to
publicly confess their faith through baptism. It
is our responsibility to teach his followers to
make that "first base" commitment.

Can I be a member if I was baptized at
another church?

Certainly! As long as a person has been baptized
in a manner that is Biblically correct (after
becoming a believer in Jesus, by immersion in
water, by a legitimate Christian ministry) they
have fulfilled our Church's expectations about
baptism, regardless of where or who baptized
them. We don't believe that we "have a corner"
on doing baptisms!

How will my baptism be done?

A date and suitable location for a baptism
service will be announced at church. A gathering
of people will come together to be a part of the
service. You can wear shorts and a top/shirt to
be baptized in. (Only modest bathing suits
please) Remember to bring a beach/bath towel!
After explaining the meaning of baptism, the
Pastor invites those being baptized to enter the
pool as they're introduced. He will ask you to
confirm your faith in Jesus as Lord and savior,
and then baptize you. You can dry off and watch
others be baptized after your baptism. There
will always be a comfortable place to change into
dry clothing afterwards.

Can I invite friends and relatives to see me
baptized?

Absolutely! This can be a great opportunity for
you to share your faith with them as you identify
openly with Jesus through baptism. There's
always room for observers to watch, take pictures
or shoot video, etc.

As they traveled along the road, they came to
some water and the Ethiopian man said, "Look,
here is water. Why shouldn't I be baptized?"
(Acts 8:36)

Jesus Changes Lives!

Tonight's Bible study at Skate Church was about
the life changing power of Jesus Christ. When we
accept Jesus in our heart there will be a change
in the way we think, feel and act. In Acts
Chapter nine it talks about Paul's conversion.
In fact before Paul accepted Jesus into his heart
his name was Saul. He had such a dramatic change
in his life that he changed his name to Paul.

We talked about what the world and society
accepts as ok, to God is a sin. Premarital sex,
stealing, lying, alcohol, drugs and many other
things are sins and God wants you to stop doing
them. God isn't trying to ruin our good time but
He is actually protecting us from the
consequences
of our actions.

When we accept Christ in our lives the Holy
Spirit will begin to change us into the image of
Jesus. It is a life long journey and no one gets
it 100% but we should just keep working at it.
Reading God's Word, prayer, fellowship with other
Christians are just but a few ways we can stay in
the presence of God and be changed by the power
of Jesus Christ.

2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new
creature: old things are passed away; behold, all
things are become new.

LuLu my BooBoo

"Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall
be comforted." Matthew 5.4

Today my beautiful dog died. When we got her she
was sick. We took her to the vet and nursed her
as best we could. She was the cutest dog. She was
half Chihuahua and terrier mix. She weighed maybe
a pound and was 8 weeks old. I think she thought
I was her mom because she had to always be close
to me and lick my ears. It tickled my ear a lot
but I liked it.

Today I got out of church and Jannet called me
and said the puppy was having seizures and was
ill. Before I came back I asked God to take her
quick if she was going to die so she wouldn't
suffer anymore. When I came home she was barely
breathing. I was petting her and she opened her
eyes and we connected one last time and then she
stopped breathing. She knew that I loved her very
much and I believe she is happy and playing in
heaven. I believe that our pets go to heaven.
Even though the scripture doesn't say so, heaven
is a place of joy and God could allow it if He
wanted to so I believe it.

The main reason I am writing this is to help with
my sadness. I also wanted to give her a tribute.
She may have been just a dog and maybe she didn't
contribute that much as far as the worlds view
would say. She contributed to my joy even for the
five days that I had her in my life. I wish
LuLu could have had a longer life. I thank God
for allowing me to have the short time with her.
I fell in love with her and she is going to live
in my memory forever until I die.

I will be posting a picture of her and
just looking at her you too will know why I loved
her so much!

Family

Tonights Bible study was about family. What type
of relationship do you have with your family?
Your mom, dad, brother or sister. Some people
are very close to their family, but sadly others
are very distant and don't get along well. Family
relationships are what really matter the most
besides a relationship with Jesus. When our
relationships with family are not what they
should be, our lives will suffer.

Proverbs 18:24 NIV
A man of many of companions may come to ruin,
but there is a friend who sticks closer than a
brother.

Our friendships with other people are important
also. Think about your friendships. Are they
casual? Do you trust them that, when things get
tough that they will stick by your side?
Building relationships is a two sided street and
they sometimes take a lot of work.

You get out of a friendship, what you put in
it!

Resurfacing our Parking lot

We are preparing to resurface our skate church
parking lot area. We can get some stuff that
comes in 5 gallon drums and spread it over the
surface. If their is anyone who knows about this
type of a job we could use your expertise.
Please post a comment and give any ideas. What
we want is a smooth and very hard surface for the
skaters. Right now it has a lot of rocks and is
rough and hard to get any speed up to jump the
ramps. The guys are getting torn up when the eat
it. Lots of band aids!!! E-mail me at Bill@tonerovernight.com We
will keep you up to date on how it goes.

Self Image

Our study at Skate Church was on self image.
Luke 19:1-10
How we feel about our self is important. How
other see us effects us also. Zacheaus was a tax
collector and really was not well liked, not
unlike the IRS of today. He met Jesus and his
entire life changed. He gave back all the money
he took and even gave 400% interest to those who
he had wronged. Jesus can change your life also,
just put your trust in Him.
